Title: My Appalachia
Topic: Elaine Tanner’s roots run deep in Appalachiaculture-given insight as she exposes the exploration of the people and the lands after centuries of extractive practices in these Appalachian mountain communities.
We will start the program by sharing a short awardwinning documentary film, “Healing in the Holler,” by Andrew Dungras, introducing a decades-long battle she herself has faced challenging the social and environmental complications surrounding the extraction of fossil fuels. Followed by a slide show to expose social and environmental impacts still taking place when regulations fail. After the presentation will be a discussion on where we go from here. We will address programs in place and the future as we see it developing after coal.
There will be an update on local oil and gas development status since Elaine’s last visit and the latest legal update on Ohio’s brine bill.
