Rev. Joan VanBecelaere — Feeding Phony Fears
April 7 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m.
Leader — Bambi Gordon
Speaker — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere
Title — Feeding Phony Fears
Topic — TV, social media, newspapers, and radio all seem to be in the current business of creating, highlighting and spreading fear. Fear of migrants (though we need new legal workers and they pay lots of taxes); fear of reproductive rights, IVF, and contraception (women’s rights); fear of inflation (even though it has been declining for many months); fear of LGBTQ+ folk, marriage equality and trans people (which we know are no threat to families or children); and more. Some are even spreading fear of renewable energy despite the many benefits of non-polluting sources. And a fear of the vaccines that save our lives.
Who is feeding these phony fears and how are these fear mongers benefiting? What impact is the growth of fear having on our lives, our society, economics and politics?
How does this explosion of fear affect our spiritual health and our hope for the future? And what can we do to help stop this spread of phony fear and the pain it causes?
